Course Overview
Like the setting in the movie, “Seven Days in Utopia,” based on sports psychologist David Cook's book, this course is out in the middle of nowhere, about an hour and half west of San Antonio. Nowhere is where the movie's main character (played by actor Lucas Black), a down and out tour professional, winds up by accident, only to meet his future mentor (Robert Duvall), who helps him find his game and himself at this unassuming nine-hole course. And that's what Golf Utopia is, a coursethat's anything but fancy. The course, which opened in 2001, is just a little more than 3,000 yards, conditions are generally fair and it's a good place to knock it around. Most of all, Utopia Golf is peaceful, surrounded by Sabinal Canyon and the scenic Texas Hill Country and maybe some farm equipment, horses and cows. Along the way, the tee boxes quote from the book and movie to help inspire you. A driving range and grill are also available.
