Course Overview

With incredible views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, shimmering lakes, tall pines and meandering streams, Toiyabe Golf Club is a site to behold and a pleasure to play. Formerly a fully private club known as Thunder Canyon Golf Club and Lightning "W" Ranch before that, this Robert Muir Graves design plays 7,241 yards from the tips with a great variety of holes. The layout has nearly 50 bunkers and water that comes into play on 14 holes. There are elevated tees with spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain with holes that rise and fall with the undulated terrain. There are five sets of tees, starting just under 5,000 yards, so the course is playable by all levels of players. But try it from the tips, and you're in for a challenge. The no. 1 handicap hole is the par-4 third, which is 498 yards. Besides being long, a lake can come into play on the approach shot, short left of the green. The course starts off with a 577-yard par 5, which features a pond in front of the green, meaning only the longest hitters can think about carrying a second shot to the green. Beside the course, Toiyabe also offers excellent practice facilities, including a full driving range, chipping green, practice bunker, and putting green. The clubhouse at Toiyabe Golf Club has a well-stocked golf shop as well as a restaurant. The latter is open every day 30 minutes before the first tee time, serving breakfast items as well as lunch later in the day with menu offerings such as breakfast burritos, fish and chips, hamburgers and wraps.
