Course Overview

Just north of Bakersfield is the North Kern Golf Course, an 18-hole public facility that opened in 1953. The full name of the course is actually the Jim Haggerty North Kern Golf Course, named for the course's first head pro who later died in a plane crash. While the course isn't overly difficult – not many penalty areas and room to hit tee shots – it has enough length to test better players. With four sets of tees ranging from 5.582 yards to 6,754 yards, the course is very playable. There are no homes on the course either. It has its share of tough holes, including the par-4 sixth, which plays 460 yards from the tips. That hole follows a par 3 that's more than 200 yards, but the majority of holes, especially from the proper tees, are player friendly. North Kern Golf Course also offers a driving range, putting green and chipping green. And inside the clubhouse, there's a well-stocked golf shop and the NK Grille, which offers a variety of salads and sandwiches.
