Course overview

Situated on the west bank of the Red River some 30 miles northeast of Winnipeg International Airport, Selkirk Golf & Country Club is a must-play when you are in the Winnipeg area. This venerable parkland course dates back to 1932 and it has stood the test of time. Not only is Selkirk Golf & Country Club rated among the finest public courses in all of Manitoba, it has also appeared on Golf Advisor s list of the Top 25 Courses in Canada. Better still, it is a user-friendly track that less proficient players can handle and it provides excellent value for your money. Though the layout will put anyone s game to the test, there s not a lot of trouble to cause undue stress or ruin your score. Many players finish their rounds saying they played their best golf of the year at Selkirk Golf & Country Club. The par-71 layout features three tee decks that present distance options of 5,761 yards, 6,287 yards and 6,520 yards. Many of the holes are secluded in their own distinct corridors amidst wonderful, mature trees. Not surprisingly, Selkirk Golf & Country Club's scenic splendor reaches its peak when the trees show their fall colors. Devotees of the course delight in the nicely varied, flat layout that is a joy to walk. The key to scoring well is to stay out of the rough and to navigate the layout s doglegs and a couple of water crossings. Even when you are amidst the trees at Selkirk Golf & Country Club you will likely find your ball. Distance becomes paramount on two holes the back-to-back par 5s on the back nine that both exceed 545 yards from the back tee boxes. Many skilled golfers seek out Selkirk Golf & Country Club for its greens, the club s pride and joy. The putting surfaces are quite small on the front nine and slightly larger on the back. They are full of subtle breaks that are tough to read. Don t count on any straight putts. Practice facilities at Selkirk Golf & Country Club include a driving range (grass and mats), a short game area where you can hit chips, pitches and bunker shots, and a putting green. The clubhouse, which is perched on a hill overlooking the Red River, features a well-stocked pro shop on the lower level and a restaurant with good food and a nice veranda on the upper level. It s no wonder Manitoba golfers from all around Winnipeg eagerly make the drive for a tee time at Selkirk Golf & Country Club.
